Who We Are

Located in the heart of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley along the I-81 corridor, Shenandoah County Public Schools has over 1,000 teaching and support staff who serve more than 5,600 students (PK-12) in ten schools: three elementary, three middle, three high, and one career and technical school.

Shenandoah County Public Schools also hosts the Massanutten Regional Governor’s School, which serves students from Shenandoah, Page, and Rockingham Counties and the City of Harrisonburg.

Happy Friday! Here is your Friday Update for Sept. 4, 2026.

All schools and offices are closed on Monday, Sept. 7, for the Labor Day holiday.

September is Attendance Awareness Month. School attendance is essential to academic success. Research shows that missing as little as two days every month can have a big impact on students. Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to learn, as well as connect to peers and their teachers. Help your students build good attendance habits and make getting to school on time every day a top priority.

In accordance with Virginia law, school divisions are required to provide parents and caregivers with annual information regarding the safe storage of prescription medications and firearms, firearm-related accidents, and current youth firearm fatality statistics. The Student Safety and Mental Health Resource Packet contains important information about safely storing medications and firearms in the home, as well as current statistics and practical steps families can take to help reduce the risk of accidental injury, self-harm, and other safety concerns. We encourage all parents and caregivers to take a few moments to review this information and consider how these safety practices may apply in their homes.

All SCPS students are once again able to sign up for an online Shenandoah County Library account this year. A parent/guardian must fill out the permission form, which will be available until September 30. Students can access the County eLibrary via our Student Portal and check out digital content once their account is created. The Parent Educational Advocacy Training Center (PEATC) is holding a live webinar titled “Keys to a Strong IEP” from 6:30-8pm on Wednesday, Sept. 9. Families will take a closer look at how present levels, parent and student input, measurable goals, services, accommodations, and placement work together to build an effective IEP. PEATC’s Understanding the Parts of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Parent and Student Input in Special Education Processes fact sheets are helpful companion resources for families who would like to dig a little deeper. Ashby-Lee 2nd & 5th Graders Enjoy County Fair Field Trip
Second and fifth grade students from Ashby - Lee Elementary School enjoyed their field trip to the Shenandoah County Fair! They learned about all of the different livestock, equipment and displays around the County Fair, getting first-hand lessons on the programs and animals that play such a big part in the Fair every year.

Band members from Strasburg High School, Central High School and Stonewall Jackson High School performed at the Shenandoah County Fair's Veterans Tribute Ceremony! Rams, Falcons and Generals join together to play a Service Branch Medley Salute for each military service.

Triplett Tech Interacts With Community at County Fair
Triplett Tech students in Criminal Justice, Auto Tech, Collision Repair, Cosmetology Culinary Arts, Early Childhood Education and Aviation were first up in the Triplett Tech Pavilion Monday night!

With booths set up for face painting and a sensory scavenger hunt, a VR station, popcorn and cookie decorating, an obstacle course and more, the students and staff had a great time interacting with families and community members throughout the night.

Construction trades will be in the pavilion tonight from 5-7pm and Health Services will be there from 5-7pm on Wednesday. Make sure to stop by and check out all they have to offer! #tripletttrained #triplettproud

Happy Friday! Here is your Friday Update for Aug. 28, 2026.

There is no school for students from Thursday, Sept. 3, to Monday, Sept. 7. Sept. 3 is a Flex Work Day. All schools are closed on Sept. 4, and all schools and offices are closed on Sept. 7 for the Labor Day holiday.

The Shenandoah County Fair kicks off this tonight and runs through Saturday, Sept. 5. Good luck to all of our students who will be showing animals at the Fair. These students work incredibly hard and we can’t wait to support them.

James Madison University and Laurel Ridge Community College will be offering an information session regarding their online teacher education programs. If you or someone you know are looking to start or finish a teaching degree, this is a great opportunity to get some valuable information. Register here for the information session and join us Thursday, Sept. 3, at 1pm at the SCPS Training Room, at 600 North Main Street on the 2nd floor, to learn more about the online teacher education programs offered through Laurel Ridge and JMU. Local Artist Provides Scenic Murals for WWRES Hallways
Students at W. W. Robinson Elementary have some new artwork to admire and interact with this school year! Local artist Ennedi Shtanko completed three 3.5'x12' murals over the summer that now hang near the main entrance to WWR and along the kindergarten and first grade hallways.

"All three murals were inspired by the landscape around us - the mountains, forests, farms, and beautiful colors that make up the Shenandoah Valley," said Shtanko, who is currently serving as the Art Teacher at Signal Knob Middle School. "When I was a student, I remember thinking that the only thing I didn't like about school was that I couldn't be outside, surrounded by nature. With that in mind, I wanted to bring a little bit of that outside world into the hallways. Even if students only spend 60 seconds walking past a mural, I want them to have a chance to enjoy the colors, recognize something familiar, and feel a little bit transported outdoors."

The murals, which each took about 25-30 of actual painting time to complete, feature beautiful landscapes and vibrant colors to catch the eye of passing students and staff alike. And if that wasn't enough, two of the murals also contain hidden elements to encourage interaction and reflection when admiring them.

"The mural I call 'Misty Mornings' has hidden letters throughout it. I may have gotten a little too good at hiding them though, because I painted a couple of duplicate letters as I was finishing the details when I couldn't find them myself," said Shtanko. "A teacher walking by actually spotted a second 'W,' which seems appropriate for W.W. Robinson.

"The farm-inspired mural, 'The Early Bird Gets the Worm,' has hidden numbers 0-10 for students to find. I even painted a few flowers that don't seem to 'fit' in with the others in the painting, which was intentional. They represent those students that don't always seem to fit the mold. I was definitely one of those students in school, so those flowers are for us."

A former W.W. Robinson student herself, Shtanko said the hidden letters and numbers are meant to add another layer of fun and give students something they can quietly search for while waiting, changing classes, or simply taking a little mental “reset” when they need one.

"There’s also a really special connection to this project for me. The last time I sat in an art class as a student was right here at W.W. Robinson," said Shtanko. "I never could have imagined back then that the things I learned in those classrooms would eventually become a career, lead to my own successful art business, and bring me back to these same hallways as the artist creating these murals.

"So, in a way, this project feels like coming full circle. I’m quite literally living the dream and it started at W.W. Robinson!"

Triplett Criminal Justice & Emergency Telecommunications Students Tackle Index Card Tower Challenge
What a great first week for our Triplett Tech students in Criminal Justice & Emergency Telecommunications! They kicked things off with the Index Card Tower Challenge, which may have looked like a simple team-building activity, but quickly became so much more.

The challenge gave us an opportunity to get to know one another, discover each person’s strengths, practice communication, and learn just how important every single role on a team can be.

In criminal justice and emergency telecommunications, teamwork isn’t optional. Every person brings different skills, perspectives, and strengths to the table—and when we learn to trust, communicate, listen, and work together, the whole team becomes stronger.

Watching them problem-solve, encourage one another, laugh, adapt, and keep trying was the perfect way to begin our year. Ms. Scott is so excited to see this group grow, not only as students and future professionals, but as a team!

SCPS IFB Vehicle Maintenance Facility Renovation & Addition

Shenandoah County Public Schools (SCPS) is seeking sealed bids from qualified vendors to provide construction services for the renovations and construction for the vehicle maintenance facility located in Woodstock, VA. A mandatory pre-bid conference will be held at 223 Mill Road in Woodstock on September 9, 2026, at 10 a.m. local time.

Edulog Parent Portal App Info for Bus Riders

The Edulog Parent Portal app is free to parents, caregivers, and students. It will show you what time the bus will be at your stop and the current GPS location of the bus. Shenandoah County Public Schools takes the safety of our students and staff very seriously. Cell Phone Free Education

Following approval of a new policy by the Shenandoah County School Board, SCPS schools began instituting a bell-to-bell policy that requires all students to put away their cell phones and personal electronic communication devices, including airpods and smart watches, for the entirety of the school day.
